the career grind that nearly took me out... 😩

purpose + possibilities.

I nearly worked myself to death. 😩

In 2007-2008, I was working the overnight shift at a fancy Beverly Hills hotel, then going straight to auditions afterwards, catching a few hours of sleep, then hitting dance classes to network.

Rinse and repeat, every single day.

I thought this was what it took to "make it."

Hustle harder, be everywhere, neglect my social life, and hardly ever sleep. 🤦🏾‍♀️

And I did that...until I looked up one day, cranky and exhausted, my relationships hanging by a thread, wanting to quit everything and everybody.

In hindsight, I was going about it all wrong. 👀

In my latest article on The Purpose Post, I dove into several ways professionals are doing what I should have been doing—building careers that actually fit their lives, instead of the other way around.

"How to Build a Career That Actually Fits Your Life"

Plus, in honor of U.S. Labor Day yesterday, it breaks down how the American workforce has completely transformed beyond what Labor Day originally celebrated.

Some things you may find interesting are:

  • The hybrid approach to work that has nothing to do with being in office
  • The "inside-out" approach to career building that actually works (hint: it's the opposite of career day advice)
  • Why "job security" isn't enough for many professionals anymore
  • Why 60% of independent workers report higher job satisfaction than traditional employees

If you're feeling stuck in work that doesn't light you up or wondering if there's a better way to build your career, this piece will give you a new framework to think about your professional path.

purpose + your path.

The article touches on something I see constantly with my clients—that disconnect between career and self. Recently, a client shared with us:

"What I wanted was a different perspective on my career and a strategy of where I should go next. I didn’t realize that I needed to change the story I was telling myself and others and to build a new story that I could be proud of."

This inside-out approach I write about in the article? It's exactly what I help professionals discover in our 1:1 Sole Talks.

Whether you're stuck in a career that no longer fits, struggling to articulate your value, or ready to make a transition but don't know where to start, we work together to reconnect you with yourself and the work that actually lights you up. ✨

And if you didn't know...

I also partner with organizations who want to develop and inspire their communities—running programs, facilitating workshops, and helping them tell stories that open doors.

Introduce me to a professional or organization in your network. When they book me, you'll get a gift card as a thank you! 😊

rize + reconnect.

The energy from RIZE 2025 is still carrying us forward. We've already started touring venues for next year's show, and I'm building the artist lineup now. 🙌🏾

P.S. I volunteer with Creative Mornings/ATL producing FREE, themed events for creatives. Last Friday, we had the privilege of hosting our monthly event at Georgia Public Broadcasting with an incredible screening, fireside chat, breakfast bites, and the same amazing DJ from RIZE who kept the energy perfect all morning. Creatives are indeed my people, and our events always remind me why I love supporting us. >> Check out the recap here, and join us next month if you're in town. 🫶🏾
